Microsoft has launched a new European Security Program to address the evolving cyberthreat landscape in the continent.

The initiative is in line with one of the five European digital commitments that Microsoft shared in April 2025.

The new programme will expand the geographic reach of Microsoft’s existing work and introduce new elements that will protect European governments from ransomware groups and cyberattacks.

There are three key elements to the programme: increasing AI-based threat intelligence sharing with European governments; making additional investments to strengthen cybersecurity capacity and resilience; and expanding Microsoft’s partnerships to disrupt cyberattacks and dismantle networks used by cybercriminals.

The programme will be available to European governments for free, including all 27 European Union (EU) member states, EU accession countries, members of the European Free Trade Association, the UK, Monaco and the Vatican.

“At Microsoft, our commitment to Europe is deep, enduring and unwavering,” said Brad Smith, vice chair and president of Microsoft. “We believe that Europe’s digital future is one of the most important opportunities of our time and protecting that future is a responsibility we share. We will stand shoulder to shoulder with European governments, institutions and communities to defend against threats, build capacity and strengthen resilience. We are proud to be a trusted partner to Europe, and we will continue to work every day to earn trust through transparency, collaboration and a steadfast commitment to protecting what matters most.”
